![]() The school opened in September 1958, with 531 students in grades 9-11 in a building with 39 classrooms designed to accommodate 1200 people. The constituent municipalities-the Chester School District (Chester Borough / Township), Mendham Borough / Township, Mount Olive and Washington Township-approved a referendum in 1956 by a better than 7-1 margin for the construction of a high school to cost $1,961,000 (equivalent to $21.1 million in 2022). It is one of two high schools in the West Morris Regional High School District. West Morris Central High School (WMCHS) is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Washington Township, Morris County, in the U.S. North Jersey Super Football Conference (football) Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference (general) West Morris Regional High School District Advance Program and Gifted and Talented Program.Sixth graders are separate from the seventh and eighth grades so that their team teachers can focus onsupporting them through social-emotional lessons specifically for sixth-grade students. The Patriot Pride Academy helps sixth graders make a successful transition to middle school.Daily related arts classes include band, orchestra, choir, and physical education (PE).This innovative program provides students with access, opportunity, and exploration of their interests and aptitudes. Thomas Jefferson Middle School (TJMS) is transitioning its innovative Digital and Global Leadership Program into an Explore Pathway school aligned with the Academies of Louisville.
